The Ark of Return

This memorial is on the plaza of the United Nations. It is named: Permanent Memorial to Honor the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

I have never before seen a monument acknowledging the millions of African people who were transported on slave ships to different parts of the world during the "Middle Passage".  Over four centuries, more than 18 million people were forcefully removed from Africa to the Americas (including the Caribbean) and Europe.

The memorial was designed by Haitian-American architect, Rodney Leon. It was dedicated in March, 2015.
